Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker pushes its global box office to $725 million in second weekend

December 29, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has propelled its global box office total to $725 million in its first twelve days of release after a strong second weekend both domestically and overseas.

The concluding chapter to the Skywalker Saga held onto top spot in North America with $72 million, and battled it out with Jumanji: The Next Level internationally where it pulled in a further $94.3 million despite dropping to second in the box office chart in a number of markets including Italy and Australia.

The Rise of Skywalker is around 5% behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi over the same timeframe, and current projections have it finishing its global run with around $1.1 billion. That would make its the seventh Disney-distributed film to pass the billion dollar mark this year and the fifth Star Wars release to reach the milestone.
