Sam Raimi discusses the future of the Evil Dead film franchise

January 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Back in October 2019, it was revealed Sam Raimi is currently working on a brand new Evil Dead story with a new director, and Bruce Campbell, who is best known for playing the series’ hero Ash, on board as a producer.

Now, during an Ask-Me-Anything on Reddit, while promoting his latest film The Grudge, Raimi addressed the future of the hit horror film series.

“Bruce, Rob [Tapert] and I are working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct,” he reiterated. “As for me…. I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie… but I’d really like to do it with Bruce. And he says he’s retired the character. I hope not.”

Unfortunately, it sounds like Bruce Campbell will most likely not star in future instalments of Evil Dead as he retired from playing Ash after the cancellation of the popular TV series, Ash vs Evil Dead. However, according to Raimi, Campbell will still be a presence off-camera with him producing the next instalment in the franchise.

During the AMA, Raimi also responded to a fan who asked about a possibility of a sequel to Fede Alvarez’s 2013 remake, to which it sounds like that idea could be still on the table in the future too – on one condition.

“If Fede would write or direct it, yes, in a split second!” Raimi responded.

Are you looking forward to seeing what the future of Evil Dead holds? Would you like to see a sequel to Fede Alvarez’s 2013 film? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
