Call of Duty movie is “in limbo” reveals director Stefano Sollima

February 17, 2020 by Gary Collinson

If you’ve been eagerly anticipated Activision’s Call of Duty movie, then we have some bad news for you as director Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) has revealed that the planned big screen adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise is “in limbo” and he’ll be most likely moving on to other projects.

“Well, the Call of Duty film has remained a bit like this…” Solima told Bad Taste (via MovieWeb). “We wrote the script with Scott Silver (Joker), and let’s say that the idea of expanding the universe, the world of Call of Duty, is no longer at the moment an industrial priority of the group, of Activision… So, trivially, it has stood still, which happens quite frequently there in America.”

Activision first announced plans for a Call of Duty movie back in 2015 upon the formation of its Activision Blizzard Studios film and TV division, while Solima boarded the project in February 2018. While no official casting news was ever announced, both Chris Pine (Wonder Woman) and Tom Hardy (Dunkirk) were linked to roles.

Are you disappointed that it seems we won’t be seeing a Call of Duty movie any time soon? Let us know on our social channels, or in the comments below…
