Woody Harrelson replaces Jason Statham in The Man from Toronto

March 11, 2020 by Ricky Church

After Jason Statham dropped out of Sony’s action comedy The Man from Toronto last week, Deadline is reporting that a replacement has been found as Woody Harrelson (Zombieland: Double Tap) has been cast in Statham’s role as the world’s deadliest assassin. Harrelson will star alongside Kevin Hart (Jumanji: The Next Level) in the film.

The film will be directed by Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) from a script by Robbie Fox in collaboration with Jason Blumenthal. The Man from Toronto follows a case of mistaken identity between the world’s deadliest assassin, known as the Man from Toronto, and a New York City screw-up who have to help each other from a group of assassins out to kill them.

Filming on The Man From Toronto is set to begin in five weeks once Hughes finishes work on Lionsgate’s action comedy sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which is itself slated to open in August. Meanwhile, Harrelson is currently filming Venom 2, where he’ll star as the psychotic mass murderer and symbiote-host Carnage in the film.

What happens when the world’s deadliest assassin, known as “The Man from Toronto,” and Teddy, New York’s biggest screw-up, are mistaken for each other in a rented Airbnb? The Man from Toronto and Teddy are forced to team up and save the day, but the real question is, will they survive each other?

The Man from Toronto will be released November 20th.
