New images from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune showcase the cast of the sci-fi epic

April 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Following yesterday’s first look at Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides in Dune, another batch of images have been released from Denis Villeneuve’s hotly-anticipated adaptation featuring Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Jason Mamoa as Duncan Idaho, Javier Bardem as Stilgar and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet Kynes; take a look here…

“I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie,” says Villeneuve, confirming once again that the plan is to split the book across two movies similar to the recent Stephen King adaptation It. “The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in details. No matter what you believe, Earth is changing, and we will have to adapt. That’s why I think that Dune, this book, was written in the 20th century. It was a distant portrait of the reality of the oil and the capitalism and the exploitation—the overexploitation—of Earth. Today, things are just worse. It’s a coming-of-age story, but also a call for action for the youth.”

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education) and Chang Chen (The Assassin).
