Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez has signed on to produce and star in The Aliens Are Stealing Our Weed, a sci-fi stoner comedy which has been scripted by Ryan Firpo, co-writer on Marvel Studios’ upcoming superhero blockbuster Eternals.
As revealed by Variety, the film will follow “Candice (Rodriguez) and Izzy, two hapless pot growers who, after their entire crop of weed inexplicably goes missing, uncover an alien conspiracy to steal the planet’s marijuana supply.”
Paramount Pictures is said to have snapped up the rights to the spec script after feeling that the project fell in line with past Paramount comedies such as Anchorman, Airplane! and Blazing Saddles.
Since the end of The CW’s Jane the Virgin last year, Golden Globe-winner Rodriguez has appeared in the feature films Miss Bala, Someone Great and Kajillionaire, and also lends her voice to the title character in Netflix’s animated series Carmen Sandiego.
