Thor director Kenneth Branagh says it would be a “thrill” to direct another comic book film

June 11, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Kenneth Branagh, the director of Thor, says that it would be a “thrill” for him to direct another movie in the genre.

The character we have seen recently in the likes of Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame is quite different from the one we met all the way back in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor in 2011.

The MCU itself has found its footing since then and Thor has evolved quite considerably as a character. Kenneth Branagh had the difficult task of introducing the character into the MCU and the director says he would be interested in returning to the genre of comic book movies.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, he said: “Yeah, it would be a thrill. It’d be a thrill, it just hasn’t happened yet. Maybe.”

He also commented on introducing Thor on the big screen back in 2011: “When that movie was made, the tonal challenges of that new and new burgeoning Marvel universe was so immense. How do you find a way to let that one live in that first tier of four movies? It was the most extreme. We’d already had the brilliance of Robert [Downey Jr.] and Jon [Favreau]’s Iron Man. We’d already had the Hulk which hadn’t quite worked as they’d hope. We’d had the Captain America. We had to find the one with the guy with the blonde hair and rainbow bridge. That was always gonna be tricky.”

Do you think 2011’s Thor holds up today? Would you like to see Branagh return to the MCU? Let us know in the comments below and on social media @flickeringmyth…
