Robert Pattinson looked to MCU stars as superhero examples for The Batman

June 18, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Robert Pattinson, the star of The Batman, said he looked to fellow superhero actors like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr. as examples to follow.

Playing a superhero, let alone an iconic one like Batman, is no easy thing and it looks like Robert Pattinson is taking the task very seriously. The job of transforming into a believable superhero is one he wants to nail and it turns out he has looked to some recent success stories for inspiration.

Speaking to Healthy for Men magazine, Pattinson named MCU actors Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. as actors who have been successful in bringing these heroes to life:

“In every project I’ve ever taken on, I’ve come into it wanting to learn and achieve new things. That’s usually in the embodiment of a character, and someone who has a different personality to me; but taking on a full physical transformation as well feels even more exciting. Any actor will go through periods where they’ll hesitate and question whether they can live up to a character in a script, or the expectations that go with it… You look at the true warriors of the superhero genre — Hemsworth, The Rock, Downey Jr, Evans — and wonder if you’re putting yourself in the wrong place. And yet, having spoken to a few, I know everyone is nervous when the opportunity comes about.”

If Pattinson is anywhere near as successful in the role as some of those actors have been in theirs, he will have done pretty well. Hopefully, The Batman will be a truly memorable new beginning for the character on the big screen.

The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.
