Michael Keaton reportedly in talks to return as Batman in The Flash movie and future DCEU films

June 22, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Having portrayed Bruce Wayne and Batman in 1989’s Batman and its sequel Batman Returns., Michael Keaton is reportedly in talks to reprise the role of the Dark Knight for the DC Extended Universe’s long-planned The Flash movie.

The Flash is being helmed by It director Andy Muschietti and will take its inspiration from DC’s Flashpoint comic book story. Talks with Keaton and Warner Bros. are said to be in the very early stages and can reportedly go either way.

According to The Wrap, the plan is to use The Flash as a way to fully introduce general audiences to the idea of the multiverse, something that is a staple of the DC Comics.

As many know from the Flashpoint comic, the Flash travels to an alternate universe where Thomas Wayne, not Bruce Wayne, is Batman. Previously speculation had suggested that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Thomas Wayne in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, might also appear as the Thomas Wayne incarnation of Batman.

Reportedly, The Flash movie will see “Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent the death of his mother. The result? Allen inadvertently creates another universe protected by Michael Keaton’s Batman, now 30 years older.”

UPDATE: According to THR’s report, Keaton isn’t just in talks for The Flash but rather several DCEU film projects including the planned Batgirl movie, and that “the role being envisioned for the veteran actor is akin to the role played by Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something of a mentor or guide or even string puller.”
