Terminator: Dark Fate star Mackenzie Davis says its “quite insane” to think there’s any demand for Terminator 7

June 30, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Despite Terminator: Dark Fate receiving the best reviews for a Terminator film in decades and originally being intended to kickstart a new trilogy of films, the future of the franchise is in jeopardy following disappointing worldwide box office numbers.

Now, in an interview with NME, Dark Fate star Mackenzie Davis suggested that there is no demand for another Terminator film and studios should be investing in new ideas from upcoming filmmakers.

“I really loved the movie and I’m so proud of what we did, but there wasn’t a demand for it [at the box office] and to think that there’d be a demand for a seventh film is quite insane. You should just pay attention to what audiences want – and they want new things and I want new things.”

“There are many interesting people that don’t fit the mould of those who make these big franchises who have not had the chance to make movies. We should be investing in them right now.”

Davis isn’t the only star of the franchise to express their frustrations regarding the latest Terminator instalment. Linda Hamilton, who returned to the franchise for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day as Sarah Connor, admitted earlier this year that she would be happy to never to return for another instalment.

“I would be quite happy to never return,” said Hamilton. “So, no, I am not hopeful because I would really love to be done.”

Both Davis and Hamilton have understandable opinions regarding the franchise after Terminator: Dark Fate took in just $261.1 million worldwide on a reported production budget of $185 million.

Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), with James Cameron producing, and sees Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) reprising their roles alongside new cast additions Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Lady), Diego Boneta (Pretty Little Liars) and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
