Michael Myers actor Nick Castle reveals the “worst part” of working on the original 1978 Halloween

August 27, 2020 by Liam Waddington

In John Carpenter’s original Halloween, actor Nick Castle portrayed the now iconic horror figure Michael Myers who hunted down Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode. However, it sounds like Castle wasn’t too fond of one particular scene in the 1978 film.

During an appearance on The Thing with Two Heads‘ video podcast, Castle revealed he did his own stunts in Michael’s escape from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium which he later regretted.

“I wish I would have let the stunt guy do the first scene where it’s in the rain and I’m jumping up on the car so I didn’t have to freeze to death. That was horrible,” Castle said. “The worst part of the show, for me, because it was like 40-something degrees that night and it was late and they put on the hoses and there’s no warm water coming out of the hose. Those big-ass hoses. And when those drops came down on me, through the gown, it was like knives. It was horrendous. And then, of course, [director] John [Carpenter] had to go, ‘Take two.'”

While that memory of being freezing cold on the set of 1978’s Halloween isn’t one that Castle is too keen on, it hasn’t stopped the horror legend from returning to the iconic character. Castle reprised the role for a single scene in David Gordon Green’s Halloween while also providing the breathing sounds, and is set to once again portray Myers/The Shape in the upcoming sequel Halloween Kills alongside James Jude Courtney.
