Shazam! Fury of the Gods targeting early 2021 production start

September 9, 2020 by Ricky Church

During DC’s online event DC Fandome, the title of David F. Sandberg’s upcoming Shazam! sequel was revealed to be Shazam! Fury of the Gods with a November 2022 release date, but no word came on when the film might begin production. Now lead star Zachary Levi has said he believes production will commence sometime in the early months of next year.

In an interview on Dan Folger’s YouTube channel Dan Fogler’s 4D Xperience, Levi opened up on the film’s potential start date: “They announced that we were gonna do a sequel pretty much right after we premiered. They knew we were tracking well enough, they were happy enough with the numbers. So they have been steadily and earnestly working on the script for the sequel and I think Q1 of next year is the idea.”

He also acknowledged that production should begin soon before Asher Angel and the other young cast members age up too quickly. “We gotta get to it fast, the kids are growing fast.”

Originally set for an April 2022 release, Shamaz! Fury of the Gods was pushed back to November 2022 mainly due to the ongoing health crisis and the production shutdowns.

Levi, however, views the delay as a blessing, saying: “I’m actually quite grateful. I think a November release is a better spot. Hopefully we can kind of float and keep it going into the holidays. Aquaman had the right-before-Christmas release and grossed a billion-plus dollars.”
