Spider-Man 3 doesn’t need Doctor Strange as a mentor says Spider-Verse director

October 14, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Peter Ramsey, the director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, says that Spider-Man 3 shouldn’t have Doctor Strange in a mentor role as Spidey doesn’t need him.

It was recently announced that Doctor Strange would be joining Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3. However, one Marvel director doesn’t think the film should use him as a mentor like Iron Man.

Peter Ramsey, the director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, took to Twitter to share his reaction to the news and his hopes for what it means: “I hope he’s just a ‘special guest star’. Don’t know why Spidey needs a mentor…one of the things I always liked in the old comics was that he was a loner, grappling with things on his own, not beloved or accepted like the Avengers or the FF.”

Perhaps Ramsey has a point and Peter should learn to do things on his own and doesn’t need handholding by one of the grown-ups. He certainly doesn’t need Doctor Strange to sell the movie. We will have to wait and see what happens but let us know how you think the Sorcerer Supreme might factor into the movie.
