The Mandalorian season 2 premiere was more popular than season one’s first episode

November 5, 2020 by Samuel Brace

The numbers are in and apparently the first episode of The Mandalorian season two was more popular than the show’s season one effort.

The Mandalorian has established itself as one of the biggest TV shows around, leading the charge over on Disney+ and delighting Star Wars fans in the process.

Season two began last Friday with its first episode and it turns out that it was even more popular than season one’s premiere – a big achievement considering the excitement behind the first-ever live-action Star Wars show.

The numbers come courtesy of a report by Observer, who received the data from Reelgood, a streaming guide that tracks every TV show and movie available online:

“Season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian accrued a 5.7% streaming share across its opening weekend (October 30-November 1). This marks an improvement from the blockbuster show‘s Season 1 premiere, but still falls behind the debut weekends of Netflix’s Stranger Things 3 and Amazon’s second season of The Boys.”

Observer remarks, however, that while Stranger Things 3 and The Boys had a bigger share, this is because they debuted with more episodes. The Mandalorian only launched with one episode, meaning it “is drawing a massive streaming share with less hours of content available to consume.”

It will be interesting to see if The Mandalorian can continue this impressive start. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait long as the next episode arrives this Friday!

The Mandalorian season two sees Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) joined by new cast additions Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.

New episodes of The Mandalorian season two hit Disney+ every Friday.
