Chris Evans on his Buzz Lightyear casting in new Pixar movie

December 17, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Among the many, many announcements during last week’s Disney Investor Day was the news that Captain America star Chris Evans is set to take on the title role in Lightyear, a Toy Story spinoff detailing the origins of the test pilot who inspired the in-universe Buzz Lightyear toy.

Taking to Instagram following the news, Evans has shared his excitement over the project, as well as clarifying that he is not replacing Tim Allen as the voice of the Buzz Lightyear toy we all know and love.

“Working with Pixar is a dream come true,” said Evans. “I’ve been a massive fan of their films since the very beginning. My team could barely contain their excitement when they told me that Pixar had a pitch for me. All they said was ‘Buzz Lightyear’. I didn’t know what that meant, since Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, and no one could ever touch his performance.”

“I needed to know how this character was different and why this story was worth telling,” he continued, before teasing: “I can say two things with absolute confidence: 1. I didn’t stop smiling through the ENTIRE pitch. Ear to ear. 2. Everyone can rest easy. And get very excited. Trust me when I say that they REALLY know what they’re doing over there. This one is gonna be special, and it doesn’t step on a single thing.”

Lightyear is set for launch on June 17th 2022. Be sure to let us know in the comments if you’re excited for this collaboration between Evans and Pixar…
