Patty Jenkins might not return for Wonder Woman 3 if it doesn’t have a theatrical release

December 23, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman 1984, says she might not return to direct a third film if there isn’t a proper theatrical release in place.

Warner Bros. decision to release Wonder Woman 1984, and all their 2021 movies, on HBO Max and theatres simultaneously in the US has caused a big response, with those in the industry voicing their displeasure.

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman 1984 is right at the heart of the drama and even she hasn’t come off as thrilled about the decision, though accepting there was no other way to get the movie out this year. Her latest comments have her even saying that she might not return for a third movie if there isn’t a proper theatrical release in place.

The New York Times asked about Jenkins the possibility of directing a third entry in the franchise and she said: “We’ll see what happens. I really don’t know. I know that I’d love to do the third one if the circumstances were right and there was still a theatrical model possible. I don’t know that I would if there wasn’t.”

Right now, fans have Wonder Woman 1984 to enjoy but for Warner Bros., it seems like a more traditional release method will be needed to entice Jenkins back for Wonder Woman 3.

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), Robin Wright (General Antiope) and new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah,  and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord.
