Zack Snyder’s Justice League gets March premiere, new poster and synopsis

January 29, 2021 by Ricky Church

After years of online campaigns and working on his cut since HBO Max first announced its release on the streaming service, Zack Snyder has announced the official release date for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the long awaited Snyder Cut of the 2017 film Justice League, with the film set to premiere on March 18th, 2021.

Zack Snyder began directing Justice League soon after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, but due to the backlash of the film the production of Justice League went under much more scrutiny by Warner Bros. Things got worse for Snyder in early 2017 when he suffered a family tragedy after the death of his daughter. The loss understandably took his focus off his work, leaving him with “no energy to fight [the studio], and fight for [the movie]. Literally, zero energy for that,” he said in a recent interview. He eventually departed the project as Warner Bros. hired Avengers director Joss Whedon to complete the film.

Production under Whedon, however, got even worse as the studio underwent massive reshoots to Snyder’s cut and demanded a runtime no longer than two hours. On set was even more difficult as Cyborg star Ray Fisher has alleged Whedon acted with “gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable” behaviour toward himself and other actors, even Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot. The problems led to WB to conduct an investigation into his behaviour and other issues, possibly leading to his dismissal as showrunner for HBO’s upcoming series The Nevers.

Here’s an updated synopsis…

In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.

When it was first announced Zack Snyder’s Justice League was said to be a 4-part miniseries, but Snyder has since confirmed it will be instead a 4-hour cut of his film.
