Earlier this month it was announced that Universal Pictures has delayed the upcoming F9, the studio putting the latest chapter of the hugely successful blockbuster series in direct competition with Sony’s Marvel sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage on June 25th.
Despite the impressive box office performance of the first Venom, which grossed over $856 million worldwide in 2018, there was only going to be one winner in that showdown, and so it will come as little surprise that Sony has now decided to push Let There Be Carnage back three months to September 17th.
The Tom Hardy-led comic book movie will now open alongside 20 Century Studios’ Death on the Nile and Universal’s The Boss Baby: Family Business, as well as the Kevin Hart / Woody Harrelson buddy comedy The Man from Toronto. In addition to starring Harrelson, who is portraying Cletus Kasady in the Venom sequel, The Man from Toronto is also being distributed by Sony, so expect that to shift in due course.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle) directing returning cast members Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock/Venom), Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) and Woody Harrelson (Cletus Kasady/Carnage) alongside new additions Naomie Harris (No Time To Die) and Stephen Graham (The Irishman).
