It looks like everyone’s favourite 90s pet detective could be set for another case, as production company Morgan Creek has revealed that work is underway on a third instalment in the Ace Ventura franchise.
“We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise – its noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a third installment,” states the team at Morgan Creek during a profile interview with Park Circus (via Collider). “During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.”
The article does not confirm whether Jim Carrey is on board to reprise his breakthrough role, although the inclusion of writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller – who recently worked with Carrey on Sonic the Hedgehog – certainly suggests that could well be on the cards.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was released in 1994 and grossed over $100 million at the box office, with Carrey returning the following year for Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, an even bigger hit with $212 million globally. The films spawned an animated series which ran for three seasons, along with the TV movie Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective.
