His Dark Materials Season 3 has begun filming

June 23, 2021 by Liam Waddington

HBO and BBC One have announced that production on the eight-episode third and final season of His Dark Materials has officially begun at Wolf Studios in Wales and on location throughout Wales and England.

The news came alongside an image of stars Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson confirming the first day of shooting on Season 3 – which also revealed that the story will adapt The Amber Spyglass, the third book in Philip Pullman’s trilogy.

His Dark Materials follows Lyra (Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world who embarks upon a journey in a strange and mysterious abandoned city to reunite Will (Wilson), a boy from our world, with his father.

The series also stars Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, Simone Kirby as Mary Malone, Will Keen as Father President McPhail, Jade Anouka as Ruta Skadi, Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala, and James McAvoy as Lord Asriel. New additions to the cast include Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost) as Commander Ogunwe, Jamie Ward (Tyrant) as Father Gomez, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Zack Snyder’s Justice League), Simon Harrison, and Chipo Chung (Into the Badlands) as rebel angels Balthamos, Baruch, and Xaphania.
