Morbius delayed for a seventh time, now heading to cinemas in April

January 4, 2022 by EJ Moreno

As a new variant rears its ugly head, Sony is looking to protect one of its upcoming Marvel projects. Today, we’ve learned that Morbius will longer be released this month and is moving all the way to April.

Deadline does note that the ongoing pandemic is not the only factor for the decision as Spider-Man: No Way Home’s massive success could also be a reason to push it back more. Deadline notes that Sony sees the success of No Way Home and “now looks to continue to do big business on the screens previously saved for Morbius.” With the popularity of the latest Spider-Man entry, it seems like they don’t want to oversaturate the market.

The previous release dates for the Jared Leto-led film included July 10th 2020, July 31st 2020, March 19th 2021, October 8th 2021, January 21st, 2022, and January 28th, 2022. Let’s hope it can stick to its April 1st, 2022 release, or we’ll be looking at an entire year of delays.

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Morbius sees Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directing a cast that includes Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) as Dr. Michael Morbius, Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Loxias Crown, Jared Harris (The Terror) as Morbius’ mentor, Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as The Vulture and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious) as an FBI agent.

Morbius is set for release on April 1st.
