Netflix reimagining The Raid with Michael Bay, Gareth Evans and Patrick Hughes

January 11, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Heralded as one of the greatest action movies of the modern era, Gareth Evans’ The Raid is reportedly about to get the remake treatment over at Netflix, with the same director teaming up with Michael Bay and The Hitman’s Bodyguard‘s Patrick Hughes for a ‘reimaging’ of the propulsive classic.

Per Deadline’s exclusive, sources have revealed that the streaming giant has come on board a ‘reimagining’ of The Raid, and that the combined forces of Michael Bay, Gareth Evans And Patrick Hughes will help give a new spin on the acclaimed film.

Netflix have set The Expendables 3‘s Patrick Hughes to direct the film, with Michael Bay and XYZ Films on board to produce. Evans will exec produce along with Range Media Partners, while Hughes will also write the film alongside James Beaufort.

Talk of a remake of the Indonesian actioner has been floating around the breaking news pages for almost a decade, with Patrick Hughes having been linked with the project since 2014, along with a host of actors who were put forward to inherit the bruised knuckles of Iko Uwais.

However, after the rights elapsed and Hughes began touting the package around town, Netflix are reported to have aggressively pursued the project, which will relocate the action from the slums of Jakarta to Philadelphia’s drug-infested Badlands, where an elite undercover DEA task force climbs a ladder of cartel informants to catch an elusive kingpin.

Has enough time elapsed for you to be excited about a remake of The Raid, or would you rather just put your DVD boxset in and revel in the skyscraper scraps of the original? Let us know what you think of this news by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth….
