Runtime for Fox’s Deadpool revealed

January 4, 2016 by Justin Cook

Typically, superhero movies are at least a bit over two hours in length, but if the trailers, images and posters for Fox’s Deadpool have told us anything, it’s that the upcoming superhero film is far from typical. According to an official Spanish website for Deadpool, the film will not only be bawdier than most comic book movies, but it will also be shorter.

The website states that the film will clock in at 106 minutes, or one hour and 46 minutes. For comparison’s sake, Fox’s three most recent X-Men films, X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past had runtimes of 132 minutes, 126 minutes and 132 minutes, respectively. Deadpool’s runtime will be more in line with such films as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which ran for 107 minutes, and 2015’s Fantastic Four, which came in at 100 minutes.

The film’s runtime makes a whole lot of sense, considering how Deadpool seems to be a comedy first and superhero movie second, and comedies usually aren’t longer than about two hours.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
