Paramount set to reboot Sleepy Hollow

June 13, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been a 1949 Disney cartoon, a 1999 Tim Burton movie, a four-season TV series, and now the story is set to be adapted once again, with Paramount announcing that they’re setting the headless horseman loose once again with a Sleepy Hollow reboot.

Deadline reports that Lindsey Beer, who is making her directorial debut for the studio with the in-production Pet Sematary prequel, will write and direct an adaptation of the classic story.

There is a lot of buzz around Beer, having recently worked on the new Star Trek film for Paramount and Bad Robot, she has also written a screenplay for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, been announced as the writer for the a Short Circuit remake, and has also reportedly just turned in a draft for a remake of Bambi over at Disney.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a gothic story that was first published in 1819, and tells the story of Connecticut school teacher Ichabod Crane and his terrifying encounter with a ghostly spectre known as the Headless Horseman. The last time the story was brought to life on the big-screen was in 1999, when Tim Burton’s take on the legend grossed over $200 million worldwide.
