Interview with actress Ianula Darlaiane

March 21, 2023 by admin

In an exclusive interview, Flickering Myth sat down with Ianula Darlaiane to talk about acting, life in Los Angeles and her role in Aviatrice…

Hi Ianula Darlaiane, welcome to Flickering Myth! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania and moved to Los Angeles when I was 19 years old to pursue a career in acting for film. I discovered acting and fell in love with it when I was 15. I did a lot of theater back home and with a lot of support from my family, I was able to move forward with my dream and make the move to LA, which was a big deal for me. I came from a family and a country that doesn’t really consider acting as a sustainable job, so the fact that I chose to do that came as a shock for a lot of people. I was always attracted to arts and somehow knew even as a child that I was definitely going to follow an artistic path in my life.

What got you into acting?

I used to watch a lot of movies as a kid and what attracted me to it in the first place was the glamor. I wanted to be in the movies as I thought it was such a magical thing to be as a grown-up, an actress. Later on, when I started acting in theater and learning more about what it is actually like to be part of the industry, it proved to be totally different. I fell in love with the craft. I liked telling stories and living under different circumstances than I usually have in my life, I found it very thrilling. Now, years after I have chosen this path, I still can’t get enough of it and I am convinced now more than ever that it was the right decision, glamorous or not.

How important is training for you?

I believe training is very important and necessary for every actor. Acting, like any other career path, requires training and exercise. I do not believe in the concept of people just being born with loads of talent and that is enough. There are so many talented people out there, but what makes the difference is the amount of effort you put in your craft and how prepared you are.

Congrats on your role in Aviatrice. Can you tell us about the movie and the role you played?

Aviatrice is a movie about Victoria, a single mother, who interviews to be a stewardess in the male dominated world of the 1960’s, while she dreams of being a pilot. It’s a very powerful aviation movie that is female led. The movie was filmed in Los Angeles and is currently exploring the film festival circuit.

Which actors/directors would you like to collaborate with in future?

There are so many people in the film industry that I would absolutely love to work with. On the top of my list are the directors Joe Wright (for his period style films that I fell in love with like Atonement, one of my favorite movies, and Anna Karenina), and Greta Gerwig (for the fresh perspective she’s taking on female leading stories). There is a very long list of actors that I appreciate, but I think some of the main ones that I would love to work with right now are: Eddie Redmayne, Florence Pugh, Michelle Yeoh, and Jennifer Coolidge.

What’s up next for you?

I am currently working on developing a feature film with a director and writer that I have previously worked with before on a music video, Ryan Stephen Holly. We are writing a story very much related to my cultural background that I am so excited to share with everyone soon enough.

How can people find and follow your journey?

My acting projects are on IMDb and I have Instagram

Our thanks to Ianula Darlaiane for taking the time for this interview.
