Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi is tired of Hollywood “garbage”

August 14, 2023 by EJ Moreno

It seems like someone just watched Shazam! Fury of the Gods on Max because Zachary Levi has something to say about the state of cinema.

Speaking to the crowd at Chicago Fan Expo, Levi held nothing back when speaking on Hollywood and the “garbage” they are releasing.

“I personally feel like the amount of content that comes out of Hollywood that is garbage — they don’t care enough to actually make it great for you guys. They don’t.” Adding, “How many times do you watch a trailer and go, ‘Oh my god, this looks so cool!’ Then you go to the movie, and it’s like, ‘This was what I get?'”

Levi then shifts to how viewers can change what studios output: “They know that once you’ve already bought the ticket and you’re in the seat, they’ve got your money. The only way for us to change any of it is to not go to the garbage.”

The rant ends with a call to action to stop watching overblown & soulless blockbusters: “We have to actively not choose the garbage. It’ll help. It’ll help a lot.”

Zachary Levi’s recent film Shazam! Fury of the Gods grossed $134 million at the global box office, just $34 million more than its reported budget. It also has a 48% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes but an audience score of 86%, so perhaps audiences aren’t quite ready to make that choice just yet…?

Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is directed by David F. Sandberg and sees the return of Zachary Levi alongside fellow cast members Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy Freeman, Faith Herman and Meagan Good as Darla Dudley, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Ian Chen and Ross Butler as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro Pena, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, and Djimon Hounsou as The Wizard. New additions to the cast include Helen Mirren as Hespera, Lucy Liu as Kalypso, and Rachel Zegler as Anthea.
