While we’re sure they’d rather no one find out, Paramount very quietly removed the proposed sequel to last year’s disastrous Terminator: Genisys from its line-up following a dismal box office performance and critical bashing. The film did have its fans, but it wasn’t enough for the bigwigs to greenlight the sequel.
Though if Matt Smith is to be believed, talk of the sequel was very minimal.
“I never really knew, to be honest,” Smith told Den of Geek US when asked if he was going to have a bigger role in the sequel. “You know what films are like. You’ve got to make one if you are going to make the other. I entered it with that in mind, to see what would happen next. Yeah, it’s news to me that that’s the case [the sequel got cancelled]. But, who knows? You never know. It may get picked up in the future.”
The idea behind Terminator: Genisys was to launch a new trilogy of Terminator films, making this the second failed attempt to do so. One has to wonder what the producers had in mind for the other two films should they ever see the light of day.
