What happens to a star on the rise when the star begins to diminish its shine? We’ll watch that unfold as actor Jonathan Majors faces a rocky road ahead.
On Monday, December 18, the actor was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment in his domestic violence trial by a six-person NYC jury. On two other charges, he was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated harassment in the second degree.
The charges carry a sentence of up to one year in prison. This instantly led to many wondering where that left the once-promising young actor in Hollywood. That picture was slightly clearer when news broke that Disney had cut ties with the actor.
A studio rep confirmed to Deadline that they’ve made the “decision to not move forward with Majors in the MCU.” That means Majors will no longer star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kang, who was getting his own movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, scheduled for May 1, 2026. According to THR, The Kang Dynasty is now being referred to as Avengers 5.
We last saw Majors as the character in Loki Season 2, which wrapped in November. That will mark the last appearance of Majors as Kang, with the MCU undecided on whether they’ll scrap those plans or recast the role.
Disney has yet to comment on Magazine Dreams, the film purchased by Searchlight Pictures, which stars Major as a disturbed bodybuilder. The fate of the film and whether it will be dumped on Hulu remains to be determined.
This follows the earlier stories that Majors was fired by his manager 360 Entertainment and publicist The Lede Company. The actor is set to be sentenced on February 6th, 2024.
