Radio Silence wraps production on Melissa Barrera-led Universal Monsters movie

December 21, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Radio Silence (filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet) have wrapped production on their new untitled Monster for Universal.

The film stars Radio Silence’s Scream leading lady Melissa Barrera (who was of course recently fired from Scream 7) alongside Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud, Will Catlett and Giancarlo Esposito.

News of production wrapping comes from social, where Weir shared photos of the wrap party; check those out below…

Specifics around the plot are unknown, but it has been described as “in the vein of Universal’s recent films like The Invisible Man and Renfield, this untitled monster thriller provides a unique take on legendary monster lore and will rep a fresh, new direction for those classic characters.”

Rumors have swirled that Radio Silence took inspiration from 1936’s Dracula’s Daughter. In the classic film, the story follows Countess Marya Zaleska, the daughter of Count Dracula. Following Dracula’s death, she believes she will be free of his influence by destroying his body and living normally. When this fails, she turns to a psychiatrist, Dr. Jeffrey Garth (Kruger). The Countess kidnaps Dr. Garth’s assistant, Janet (Marguerite Churchill), and takes her to Transylvania, leading to a battle between Dr. Garth and the Countess.

The film will be directed by Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a script written by Stephen Sheilds and Guy Busick. Radio Silence’s Chad Villella will produce alongside Project X Entertainment’s William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt. The untitled film has a release date of April 19th, 2024.
