Ming-Na Wen and Sadie Stanley board The Karate Kid sequel

The next installment of The Karate Kid franchise has made more additions to its cast. According to both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Ming-Na Wen (The Book of Boba Fett) and Sadie Stanley (The Goldbergs) have joined the upcoming film.

Wen and Stanley join a cast that includes Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) and Joshua Jackson (The Affair) with Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan reprising their Karate Kid roles as Daniel La Russo and Mr. Han, the latter starring in the 2010 remake that is now being brought over to the main series continuity.

The new Karate Kid will bring the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China (Wang) who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two).

The film is coming just as Cobra Kai, the franchise’s TV sequel which has followed LaRusso and his Karate Kid rival Johnny Lawrence, is in production on its sixth and final season which is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year or early next year.

Sony’s Karate Kid is directed by Jonathan Entwistle (I’m Not Okay With This) from a script by Rob Lieber (Peter Rabbit).

The Karate Kid will be released December 13th, 2025.
