Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery returning for The Boondock Saints 3

March 22, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

It has been teased before, but it has now been confirmed that Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are set to return to the world of 1999 cult-crime flick The Boondock Saints for a long-overdue sequel.

According to Deadline, John Wick production company Thunder Road has teamed up with Boondock rights holders Dragonfly Films in order to facilitate the further adventures of the McManus brothers in Boston’s underworld.

Franchise director Troy Duffy won’t return for this third outing, instead choosing to write a series of books focusing on the world of The Boondock Saints.

As reported by Deadline, The Walking Dead star Reedus said “I’m thrilled to be working alongside Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Films and Todd Myers’ Dragonfly Films to bring more of the story of the Boondock Saints to audiences. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have long been working toward. We are pressing on without our longtime friend and Captain, Troy Duffy on this one. He has decided to write a Boondock Saints book series and I can’t wait to read it.”

The Boondock Saints starred Flanery and Reedus as the McManus brothers, twins who become vigilantes after killing two Russian mobsters in self-defense. Duffy’s debut film, it endured a turbulent production and found itself limited to a handful of theatrical screenings in the wake of the Columbine High School massacre, but went on to become a huge success on home video and quickly developed a cult following. A critically derided sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, was released in 2009.
