Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor returns for more Doctor Who adventures with The Dream Team

April 10, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Peter Davison leads the cast in a new set of adventures in Doctor Who – The Fifth Doctor Adventures: The Dream Team from Big Finish.  Available exclusively from the Big Finish website, this new box-set will have the Fifth Doctor solving a murder, dealing with dream crabs and a whole new ordeal for Turlough.

The Fifth Doctor Adventures: The Dream Team includes three new adventures that take the Doctor and his companions far and wide across space and time.  Peter Davison reprises his role as the Fifth Doctor and is joined by Janet Fielding as Tegan, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, and guest stars Josie Lawrence, Angus Imrie and Pearl Appleby.

The three new adventures are:

The Merfolk Murders by Tim Foley takes the Doctor to St. Andrew’s University in Scotland in 1940. Here he meets a society known as The Merfolk, a group of students who meet throughout the summer to discuss murder mysteries.  On this occasion their discussion is the latest book The Casebook of Orion Hood, featuring a hero all too familiar to the Doctor.  When a real murder happens, the Doctor’s friends urge him to don his deerstalker and solve the crime before the killer strikes again.

Dream Team by Lizzie Hopley. When a protected wonder of space is being exploited by an unscrupulous company selling ‘company away days’, the Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric confront the organisers leading them into a web of nightmares.  While the Doctor confronts a monster that can use its opponents’ own minds against them, his companions fall deeper into the trap.

This box-set also includes the second of this year’s bonus Interludes read by Dan Starkey.  Meanwhile, Turlough by Jonathan Blum finds the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough trying to resolve a crisis on Greysolon but Turlough has a crisis of his own and it will take all his strength to save himself.

On his story The Merfolk Murders, Tim Foley said: “It’s a Doctor Whodunnit, a tale inspired by the Golden Age of Crime. It’s a properly clued mystery with an impossible crime at its centre. I may love my Agatha Christies, but making a locked room mystery work on audio is a puzzle all by itself! Hopefully I’ve pulled it off. Peter Davison delivers one heck of a denouement!”

The Fifth Doctor Adventures: The Dream Team is available to buy now from Big Finish for £22.99 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £18.99 (digital download only).
