Game of Thrones Jon Snow spin-off series no longer in development at HBO

April 10, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

While Game of Thrones fans gear up for season two of House of the Dragon, there is some bad news about another potential spin-off, with Kit Harington confirming that the Jon Snow series is no longer in active development at HBO.

Harington was promoting his forthcoming crime-thriller Blood For Dust when he was asked by Screen Rant about the current state of the spin-off series, and unfortunately it appears that much like the character of Jon Snow at the end of Game of Thrones, the show is now in exile.

“I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.

He continued “And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”

One of many Game of Thrones spin-offs planned, the Jon Snow solo-outing appears to have gone the way of Blood Moon, the Naomi Watts-headlined prequel-series that filmed a $30 million pilot, but was subsequently scrapped by HBO.

As of now the only active GOT series in development is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which will star Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas.
