Chris Hemsworth says he “didn’t stick the landing” on Thor: Love and Thunder

April 30, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Even though the actor already shaded the film last year, calling the fourth Thor movie ‘too silly’ for its own good, Chris Hemsworth is back more feelings to unleash about 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

While promoting Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in an interview with Vanity Fair’s May 2024 issue, Hemsworth says he looks back at the film fairly unfondly.

Hemsworth blames his comedic choices, telling the publication, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness; I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.”

That could’ve stemmed from an overall frustration about playing the character, with Hemsworth hinting he needed to stand out and didn’t get the best lines compared to his Avengers co-stars.

He notes, “Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines and go, ‘Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun. What’s my character doing?’ It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.”

There’s no official confirmation on when and if Chris Hemsworth will take up the Thor mantle again. He’s already said if he returns, things will need to change as “I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen.”

If you want to see more of the actor, you can see him next in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The film is set to world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before it opens in theaters nationwide on May 24th. Watch the trailer here.
