Sam Mendes and Armando Iannuccci’s Cinematic Universe satire The Franchise gets first trailer

September 9, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

HBO has released the trailer for The Franchise, their forthcoming comedy series that follows the crew of an unpopular superhero movie franchise as it struggles to save its cinematic universe.

Created by Sam Mendes (American Beauty), Armando Iannucci (Veep), and Jon Brown (Succession), the impressive ensemble of The Franchise features Himesh Patel as Daniel, Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Billy Magnussen as Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein as Pat, and Isaac Powell as Bryson. Recurring guest stars include Richard E. Grant as Peter and Daniel Brühl as Eric. Watch the trailer below…

“The Franchise follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. The comedy series shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question — how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every f—-up has an origin story.”

The Franchise premieres October 6 on Max and on Sky TV in the UK from October 21.
