Found footage horror game Backward Poiesis hits Steam

October 15, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Japanese indie game developer Sur has released their found footage horror game Backward Poiesis on Steam for PC.  This new horror title puts players into the found footage to encounter the bizarre happenings.

In Backward Poiesis, a man moves into his new home to discover an old video camera left there by the previous occupant.  Out of curiosity, the man turns on the camera to find that whoever once owned it had recorded some very bizarre and inexplicable goings on.  The man then gave an interview as to what he saw and the game has been based on those interviews.

Taking the role of the person doing the filming in the found footage, players will walk through an empty, inorganic space similar to the type seen in the stories of Liminal Space and Backrooms, but as they wander through this maze of corridors and rooms they will come to realise the terrifying intent behind the video.

To give the game it’s authentic video camera feel, the developers have used UnrealEngine 5 to reproduce the image quality of a video camera right down to the texture, along with all the camera noise and shaking that comes with a handheld video camera.

Backward Poiesis is available now on Steam at a bargain price of £2.49.  There’s also a 10% discount available until 21st October.
