Margaret Qualley to star in gothic horror Victorian Psycho

October 30, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

The Substance star Margaret Qualley is set to extend her stay within the genre by signing on to headline the gothic-horror Victorian Psycho.

Per Deadline’s report Victorian Psycho will be set in 1958, and tells the story of a young, eccentric governess named Winifred Notty (played by Qualley) who arrives at an isolated gothic manor known as Ensor House. There Winifred’s responsibilities will include teaching the children table manners and educating them about their family’s history, all whilst hiding her psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred adjusts to life at Ensor House, staff members begin to vanish, leading the owners of the estate to wonder if there is something awry about their new governess.

Zachary Wigon, who directed Qualley in 2022 psychosexual drama Sanctuary, will helm the film, working from a script by Virginia Feito, who will be adapting from her forthcoming novel of the same name. Produced by Dan Kagan (Longlegs), production is due to get underway in the first quarter of 2025.

Qualley has been amassing an impressive CV over the last few years, with critically-acclaimed turns in HBO’s The Leftovers, and Netflix’s The Maid, complimented by appearances in everything from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood… to Poor Things. Next up we’ll see her in Ethan Coen’s Honey Don’t, followed by Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon.
