R.I.P. Tony Todd (1954 – 2024)

November 9, 2024 by Gary Collinson

In some very sad news breaking tonight, it has been announced that American actor Tony Todd has passed away aged 69.

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1954, Todd amassed almost 250 film and television credits in a career spanning five decades, earning legendary status in the horror genre with his roles in the likes of the Candyman, Final Destination and Hatchet franchises.

Todd made his film debut in 1986’s Platoon and would take on the lead role in Tom Savini’s 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead before firmly establishing his horror credentials with the title role in 1992’s Candyman.

As well as returning for the sequels Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, Candyman: Day of the Dead and 2021’s sequel, Todd would follow Candyman with a host of film credits including The Crow (1994), The Rock (1996), Wishmaster (1997), Final Destination (2000), Hatchet (2006) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). He’d recently reprised his role as motician William Bludworth in the upcoming Final Destination: Bloodlines, which will now be released posthumously in 2025.

Away from the big screen, Todd also worked extensively in television as well as voiceover work for animation and video games; notable credits include Star Trek, Stargate SG-1, 24, The Flash, Call of Duty, the recent Spider-Man 2 video game and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
