Chris Evans sets MCU return for Avengers: Doomsday

December 9, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Chris Evans made a home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s not done yet, as he’s now set for 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.

The Wrap has reported that Evans will join the latest Avengers film, but his role in the project remains a mystery.

After seemingly wrapping up his time as Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, it seemed like the actor had hung up his shield for good. But he’s dipped his toe back into the MCU with a brief return in this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine. The twist was that he appeared as his character Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four movies, not Captain America.

At the time of writing, the only actor officially confirmed by Marvel alongside Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is Robert Downey Jr., who will debut as Doctor Doom. The actor is set to receive an $80 million-plus payday for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

The Russo Brothers, best known for directing Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, are returning to direct Avengers: Doomsday and its direct sequel Avengers: Secret Wars.

Shooting for the new Avengers starts in London around the second half of 2025. Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more updates. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026.
