The Expanse coming to SyFy

April 12, 2014 by Villordsutch

Described as a “kick ass space opera!” by George R.R. Martin and as the sci-fi equivalent of Game of Thrones by anybody that has read it, The Expanse by James S.A. Corey is heading to the SyFy channel. Set two hundred years in our future this science-fiction thriller follows Detective Miller and a roguish Capitan Jim Holden as an investigation into a missing girl slow unravels a very deep-rooted conspiracy threaded throughout the solar-system.

Taking the reigns for the show are Alcon Television Group, with Oscar-nominated screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men, Iron Man) attached as writers and exec producers.

“The Expanse is epic in scale and scope and promises to be Syfy’s most ambitious series to date,” Syfy president Dave Howe said. “Bringing this coveted book franchise to television with our partners at Alcon and the Sean Daniel Co. is a giant win for Syfy, reinforcing our overall strategy to produce bold, provocative and compelling sci-fi fantasy stories. The Expanse joins a killer lineup of high-concept, high-quality series, along with recently announced original projects Ascension, 12 Monkeys, the renewal of Helix, and the soon to premiere Dominion.”

The Expanse series covers three books in Leviathan Wakes, Caliban’s War and Abaddon’s Gate. These books were published through Orbit and with Abaddon’s Gate being published back in June 2013, you still have time to see what you’ve been missing before it starts on SyFy.
