System Shock 2 gets 25th Anniversary Remaster on PC and consoles

March 26, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Nightdive Studios will be releasing System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on PC and consoles on 26th June.  This upcoming title is a modernised edition of the 1999 classic sci-fi horror action role-playing game that sees players take on an army of mutants in space.  Watch the release date announcement below…

For the first time, this classic PC title will be arriving on consoles, with improved visuals, enhanced gameplay, improved performance, cross-play co-op multiplayer, mod support and much more thanks to Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX Engine.

Set 42 years after the events of the original System Shock, players will awaken from cryo-sleep as a soldier with cybernetic implants to find his starship, the Von Braun, under the command of antagonist SHODAN and her army of merciless mutants.  As this cybernetic warrior, unravel the mystery of the derelict starship and its new mutant occupiers.

In order to beat the mutants and SHODAN, players will need to hone their soldier’s skills and utilise powerful weapons and psionic abilities.  Players can choose from an O.S.A., Marine, or Navy background and practice their skills with different playstyles to see what works best for them.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster features:

  • Remastered graphics with extended cutscenes and character and weapons models, all delivered in 4K 144FPS on PC and 120FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • The addition of 50 Trophies/Achievements.
  • Cross-play co-op multiplayer so players can kill mutants with their friends.
  • Full mod support on PC and the ability to implement community-made missions.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is available to pre-order now on PC (via Steam, GOG, the Epic Game Store, and the Humble Bundle Store) and for PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
