Tom Hardy says a Venom and Spider-Man crossover “got as close as I could possibly imagine”

April 4, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Despite being part of separate universes at Sony and Marvel Studios, many fans had hoped we might get to see Tom Hardy’s Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man face off on screen. However, after a brief tease in Spider-Man: No Way Home the idea was sadly dropped, while Tom Hardy’s time as the symbiote seemed to end with Venom: The Last Dance.

While promoting his Guy Ritchie-produced series MobLand, Hardy gave fans a glimpse at what happened behind the scenes regarding a potential crossover. Appearing on The Playlist’s Discourse Podcast, the actor confirmed that talks had taken place, but indicated that studio politics may have prevented it from happening.

“We got close. We got as close as I could possibly imagine getting, apart from doing a film together, which I would have loved to have done because that just means so much fun. And for all the reasons that you explained ultimately in there [it didn’t happen],” says Hardy. “Fundamentally, for me, it would be for the kids. Because, you know, as much as adults love superhero films, as you can tell by the box office when they’re successful, I think I’m constantly reminded by children how important these characters are. And they don’t know why their favorite characters aren’t in films together.”
