Summer H. Howell is the leading lady in Mike Flanagan’s TV adaptation of Carrie. At least, that’s who is at the top of the list now.
Variety reports that the young actress is nearing a deal to star in the series, but the outlet notes that “negotiations are currently ongoing.” This updated Carrie has reportedly been in development at Amazon since October.
Howell is used to horror franchises, previously appearing in Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. She’s also starred in other genre entries like Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, and Harland Manor.
The series logline is: “Bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”
It was rumored last week that Milly Shapiro was landing the titular role, but the plans for that casting seemingly fell through. The perfect casting for this iconic Stephen King role is needed, so production is taking its time.

Flanagan will write and executive produce Carrie and serve as showrunner and directing. A formal announcement of a series pickup has yet to be confirmed by Amazon, but the announcement is expected soon.
