The Bodyguard to get a remake from Warner Bros. and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour director Sam Wrench

April 13, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Are we ready to revisit the power of The Bodyguard? For those of us still playing the soundtrack regularly, it will be a hard pill to swallow that a cinematic update is on the way.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is planning a revamp of the project, which thrust singer Whitney Houston to another stratosphere. This news was revealed in an interview with Warner Bros’ co-film bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.

The outlet reveals that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour director Sam Wrench will helm a script by Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams. The casting for this update is underway, and reports say Swift is currently in the running.

1992’s The Bodyguard follows a former Secret Service agent, Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), who is hired to protect a famous singer, Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston), from a stalker. As danger intensifies, the two develop a complicated romantic relationship. Mick Jackson directed the iconic film, which Lawrence Kasdan penned.

The film made $411 million at the worldwide box office, landed a pair of Oscar nominations, and launched one of the biggest movie soundtracks ever. Whitney Houston led the soundtrack, which included hits such as “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Queen of the Night,” and the Oscar-nominated “Run to You” and “I Have Nothing.”

Flickering Myth will update fans with any news on the cast of The Bodyguard.
