Mamorukun ReCurse! brings an arcade classic to PC and consoles later this year

May 8, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Clear River Games and Japanese publisher and developer City Connection have announced Mamorukun ReCurse!, a modern remaster of the classic arcade shooter Mamorukun Curse!. This new version of the adorable cute vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up will be arriving on PC and consoles later this year and contains new features while maintaining that classic gameplay.  Watch the new announcement trailer below….

Mamorukun ReCurse! is inspired by traditional Japanese mythology and sees players take on the role of Mamoru, a young warrior who wakes up in the Netherworld after an untimely death.  Working alongside a group of new friends, Mamoru must seal the gate to The World of Darkness to prevent the Netherworld being consumed by the dark.

During the vertical-scrolling shoot ‘em up action, players will use Curse Bullets to take out enemies in intense risk-reward gameplay that dynamically alters the difficulty as they play.

Players will be able to enjoy several different modes, including Story Mode, Arcade Mode, and Challenge Courses. There are also a number of alternative costumes, all previously-released DLC characters and a new Gallery Mode.

Mamorukun ReCurse! features:

  • An arcade classic remade for modern platforms.
  • Different game modes and challenges.
  • Multiple characters, alternate outfits for Mamoru.
  • Original compositions by Yosuke Yasui and arranged music from previous releases.

Mamorukun ReCurse! will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch later this year.
