Street Fighter movie casts Callina Liang as Chun-Li

June 24, 2025 by Ricky Church

As Legendary’s Street Fighter film adaptation picks up steam, Deadline reports it has filled a major role. Callina Liang (Presence) will star as Chun-Li, one of the most recognizable characters in the Street Fighter games.

Chun-Li was introduced in Street Fighter II as “a skilled martial artist and Interpol officer.” The franchise follows a fighting tournament organized by the evil M. Bison and his Shadaloo group as they attempt to take over the world.

Liang joins a cast that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma and Orville Peck  as Vega with Justified and The White Lotus star Walton Goggins in talks for the role of Bison.

Street Fighter was previously adapted in 1993 starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia. Though a commercial flop, it went on to become a cult classic with a large fan following. A film based on Chun-Li was also made in 2009 with Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, though unlike its predecessor it has a much more negative reputation among the franchise’s fans and among video game films.

The new Street Fighter film will be directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) from a script by Dalan Musson (Captain America: Brave New World).
