King & Conqueror trailer pits James Norton against Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for the English throne

July 25, 2025 by Amie Cranswick

The BBC has debuted the first trailer for the historical drama series King & Conqueror.

The series tells the story of Harold, Earl of Wessex (James Norton) and William, Duke of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), two men with no design on the English throne as they battle for possession of the crown in 1066.

Joining Norton and Coster-Waldau in the cast are Emily Beecham, Clémence Poésy, Eddie Marsan, Juliet Stevenson, Elander Moore, Clare Holman, Luther Ford, Bo Bragason, Geoff Bell, Jean-Marc Barr, Elliott Cowan, Bjarne Henriksen, Oliver Masucci, Indy Lewis, Jason Forbes, Ingvar Sigurdsson, Ines Asserson, Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson and Léo Legrand; check out the trailer below…

“King & Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years, the roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea. Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the English throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.”

King & Conqueror is coming soon to BBC One.
