World of Warships celebrates 80th anniversary of the end of WWII in latest update

August 5, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Wargaming will be paying tribute to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the latest update for World of Warships. Update 14.7, also known as “In the Name of Tomorrow”, brings new Operations with exclusive rewards and ships to earn, including the special Premium Tier VIII American cruiser San Diego.  You can learn more in the new update video below….

Three new Operations reflect the progress of the war across three weeks, with one Operation available at a time. The three Operations – Arctic Convoy, Tokyo Express, and Pacific Offensive, are designed for up to seven players and provide a variety of objectives to complete, including escorting convoys, stealth raids, and destroying fortified enemy installations. Players will be able to use the Tier VI French cruiser La Galissonnière and Tier VIII American cruiser Cleveland as rental ships.

After the three weeks, all Operations will return once more, giving players the chance to complete them again with expanded restrictions on tiers and nations.  Completing objectives will reward players with stars that progress them through a special narrative campaign, which contributes towards the new ‘39-’45 Chronicles Collection. The Operations will unlock plenty of rewards, including a Special End of WWII skin for the Tier IX American battleship Iowa, a new enemy destruction effect known as Underwater Explosion, and the American Commander, Robert Adams. Plus, there’s the special prize of the premium Tier VIII American cruiser San Diego for those who complete the event.

The Tier X American premium destroyer USS Laffey arrives in the Dockyard and is available across 20 construction phases. The ship, nicknamed “The ship that would not die,” comes equipped with 127mm guns, improved Defensive AA fire, an enhanced Specialised Repair Teams consumable, and a powerful toolkit that allows for strong concealment.  Additionally, the Laffey features a variant of the Burst Fire mechanic, short-range torpedoes, and a time-based Smoke Generator.

“In the Name of Tomorrow” also introduces the Content Rarity System to the Armoury and the Captain’s Log Book. This new system brings colour-coded rarity grades for ships, camouflages and enemy destruction effects, allowing players to easily guage the differences between items.

Finally, two new flags and new achievements for Clan Battles Season 31 round up the August update.

Commemorate 80 years since the end of World War II with World of Warships.
