Bungie reveals Star Wars-inspired Destiny 2 expansion

September 10, 2025 by Andrew Newton

During a recent livestream, Bungie gave viewers a first look at the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, Renegades, which is set to release on 2nd December. Inspired by the legendary Star Wars universe, Renegades blends the Destiny storytelling with the themes and elements from the iconic sci-fi. A new ViDoc was revealed during the livestream (see below), showcasing some of the new content arriving with the expansion.

The new ViDoc, titled Infiltrating the Lawless Frontier, highlights some of the new upcoming content, including the new Lawless Frontier game mode, new characters, and a new social hub, Tharsis Outpost.

In the Lawless Frontier, Guardians will tackle high-risk, high-reward contracts, such as smuggling, bounty hunting, and sabotage, to build a reputation with shady Syndicate factions through the Notoriety system. Players will complete missions that span across three planets and six maps inspired by iconic Star Wars locations, and be able to unlock upgradeable Renegade abilities unique to Lawless Frontier, and earn new weapons and equipment, including the introduction of the new weapon archetype, the Blaster.

Destiny 2: Renegades is available to pre-order now and is also included in the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition. Those pre-ordering through this edition will unlock exclusive rewards, including the Renegade Leader Exotic ship, the Starside Introduction emblem, and much more.

Also available is the game’s first major update, Ash & Iron. This update (available to all players) takes Guardians back to the Plaguelands to investigate Maya Sundaresh’s experiments. There are new rewards to earn by battling through a new three-player Fireteam Ops activity called Reclaim, a new Rewards Pass featuring 110 ranks of additional rewards, and on the 27th September there’s the Epic raid for The Desert Perpetual.

Coming on 7th October is  a new Exotic mission, where players will confront Maya Sundaresh’s Vex and Cabal forces, and uncover new secrets. The annual Festival of the Lost event returns on the 21st October with more weapon holofoils and masks for Guardians to equip while chasing some ghoulish rewards.

Pre-order Destiny 2: Renegades and join the fun in the Ash & Iron update now.
