Owlcat Games unveils great news for Warhammer 40,000 fans

October 17, 2025 by Andrew Newton

At the IGN Fan Fest, Owlcat Games unveiled exciting news about their titles Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Owlcat’s most beloved CRPG, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, while Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy will be entering Alpha later this year.

Following the launch of the major Lex Imperialis expansion earlier this year, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader will be pushing back (or welcoming) the Ruinous Powers of Chaos on the Nintendo Switch 2. The obvious advantage to this is that humanity will have an additional mobile option besides the Steamdeck when making their journey across the Koronus Expanse.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader will place gamers in command of their very own Voidship as a Rogue Trader, an ancient dynasty of privateers who explore and protect the fringes of Imperial space. Blessed by the Emperor himself, players will use their immense vessel to expand the Imperium, follow the Emperor’s guidance and use the ship and its vast crew to dispose of the enemies of humanity. Alternatively, players could also fraternise with enemy forces, but whatever decision is made, it will have an impact on the nearby star systems and those who live in them.

When Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy launches into Alpha later this year, it will take players into the dark 41st millennium as an acolyte of the Inquisition. Players will journey through the Imperium of Man during the Noctis Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, long considered a harbinger of doom. This era of humanity was shaken by devastation that in places lasted countless years.

It is up to players to lead a diverse warband of loyal Imperium subjects, including veteran Catachan Guardsman, Ogryns, and even strange xenos, such as the bird-like Kroot mercenary. Together, players will seek out the heresy and corruption that plagues the Imperium.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is heading to the Switch 2 soon, and is available now on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG, as well as PlayStation 4|5 and Xbox One and Series X|S. Meanwhile Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy arrives in Alpha later this year.
